Support : Busby SEO Test

For quite some time, it has been a well known fact that in order to rank well with the search engines, a page must have a large number of inbound links (link popularity). However, a not so well known fact is that the wording of those links (the link anchor text) is also very important.  In fact, there are strong indications that search engines are nowadays paying a great deal of attention to the anchor text of the links pointing to your site.

To give you an example of how important link anchor text is, let’s suppose that you run a web design site, and that you want it to rank very high with the search engines for the search term “web design“.  If you had 100 links pointing to your homepage, and the anchor text of all of them said “click here“, they wouldn’t tell the search engines a whole lot about your site.  The search engines will therefore have trouble knowing that your site is about web design (they will have to try other ways to find out, like crawling the text of your page), and most likely won’t assign your page a good position in the search results pages.

If you own a small business and don’t have your own domain name, you are probably still using the email address provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or one of the free email services on the net.

This means that your email address could be something like: yourname@yahoo.com, yourname123@aol.com, or yourbusiness@freemail.com.  This kind of email address looks unprofessional and will make your business lose credibility, especially if you print it in your business card.

If you want to know how much traffic is coming to your site, which pages  are bringing the most traffic, where are your visitors coming from, and when is traffic coming in, you just have to analyze your website’s statistics.

Nowadays, most web hosts utilize Webalizer, a powerful program that processes your raw traffic logs (long, text based files with information about your traffic), and generates meaninful reports presented in the form of easy to understand graphs and tables.   Other hosts may use different traffic anaylis tools, but they all work and present the information in a similar fashion.

With Google delivering so much traffic, it is only normal to be eager to submit your page and have it indexed as soon as possible. However, submitting your page is not your only option, and it’s not the best one.  If this sounds strange keep reading.

Talking about its indexing process, Google says:

“We add thousands of new sites to our index each time we crawl the Web, but if you like, you may submit your URL as well. Submission is not necessary and does not guarantee inclusion in our index. Given the large number of sites submitting URLs, it’s likely your pages will be found in an automatic crawl before they make it into our index through the URL submission form.”

Goggle PageRank™ 101

Posted by BaliSEO under Internet Marketing

PageRank™ is Google’s proprietary system for ranking web pages according to importance.  PageRank (PR from now on) is a grade (on a scale from one to ten) that Google gives a page after performing a series of elaborate calculations (Google’s PageRank algorithm) that take into account the page’s content, and the number and quality of pages linking to it.

In a nutshell, the more inbound links a web page has, coming from pages that (a) have a high PR and (b) feature similar or complementary content, the higher its PR will be.  The second condition is very important, since a link from a high PR soccer page to a dog grooming page is unlikely to result in any PR benefit for the dog grooming page.
